AI consulting for Shopify and subscription brands

Native helps Shopify and subscription brands put AI agents into retention, customer support and catalog operations. Agents decide which offer a cancelling subscriber sees, resolve routine tickets from the order record, and keep product data clean across every channel. Each one runs inside the store, subscription app and helpdesk you already use.

Where AI has an impact in e-commerce

Cancellation and retention flows

Each cancelling subscriber sees the offer that fits their history, within a budget your team sets.

Win-back after cancel

Follow-ups timed after a cancellation that never repeat an offer the customer already turned down.

Order support

Where-is-my-order, address change and return tickets resolved from Shopify and carrier tracking.

Failed payments

Card failures followed up in a sequence that recovers the order without spamming the customer.

Product records

Supplier sheets turned into complete listings with attributes, variants and brand-voice copy.

Feed and marketplace health

Listings checked against each channel's rules and fixed before they are suppressed.

Review and feedback analysis

Reviews and survey answers grouped by theme so the product team sees what drives returns and cancellations.

Customer insight reporting

Weekly plain-language summaries of why customers cancel, return and complain.

Why retention is the first place AI has an impact in e-commerce

For a subscription brand, a cancelled subscriber costs far more than one lost order: it is every order that would have followed. Most brands still show the same cancel page to everyone, so a five-year customer who is overstocked gets the same treatment as a first-month buyer who never liked the product.

A retention agent reads who is leaving and why, then picks the right response: a skip for the overstocked customer, a swap for the one who is tired of a flavour, a discount only where the numbers support it. People set the rules and the budget, and the agent applies them on every cancellation.

How a well-built retention flow works

  • Ask the reason first. A short survey with a follow-up question for each answer tells the flow what the customer actually needs.
  • Decide with rules your team can read. The first rule that matches wins, and signals such as tenure, lifetime value and order count are checked before the stated reason.
  • Cap the cost. A monthly discount budget per brand and a cooldown per customer stop repeat cancellers from collecting repeat discounts.
  • Act through the platform. Pause, skip, swap and discount run through the subscription app itself, such as Recharge, Skio, Stay AI or Shopify Subscriptions.
  • Report honestly. Revenue saved at the moment of the save is never added to revenue actually realized at 30, 60 and 90 days.

Support and catalog operations

Most support tickets for an online brand are about one order: where it is, when it ships, how to change the address, how to return it. Agents answer them from Shopify and the carrier's tracking inside Gorgias or Zendesk, and hand anything about a damaged product, a refund over policy or an upset customer to a person with the order already pulled up.

Catalog work follows the same shape. Agents build product records from supplier sheets, write descriptions in your brand's voice, fill attributes for marketplace and ad feeds, and flag listings that break a channel's rules before they get suppressed.

What an AI engagement in e-commerce looks like

We start with your cancellation data, your ticket history and your catalog, and find where revenue leaks and where the team's hours go. The first agent, often the cancellation flow or ticket handling, is in production within weeks, and the full set of customer-facing operations runs with agents within months.

Keys and customer data stay in your accounts and are encrypted at rest, and your team can change offers, rules and tone without a developer.

How to measure the impact

  • Subscribers retained by pause, skip, swap or offer
  • Revenue realized from saved subscribers at 30, 60 and 90 days
  • Discount cost per retained subscriber
  • Tickets resolved without an agent, and first reply time
  • Listings rejected or suppressed by marketplaces

Case study · A subscription consumer brand on Shopify

A subscription brand replaced its one-size cancel page with offers that fit each customer.

Native helped a direct-to-consumer subscription brand put a retention agent behind its cancel button and an agent on its support inbox. Fewer cancellations end in a lost subscriber, and the support team works only the tickets that need a person.

~1 in 4cancellation attempts ending in a pause, skip or swap
~60%of support tickets resolved without the team
6 weeksfrom kickoff to both agents in production

The challenge

Every subscriber who clicked cancel was cancelled, with no question asked and no alternative offered. The support team spent most of its day on order-status tickets, so the hard tickets waited.

What we built

  • A cancellation flow that asks for the reason, chooses a pause, skip, swap or offer from rules the team edits, and enforces a monthly discount budget.
  • A support agent in the helpdesk that resolves order and shipping tickets from Shopify and the carrier, and hands every complaint to a person.
  • A dashboard that reports saved subscribers and the revenue they actually went on to spend, kept separate.

The result

The brand kept subscribers who only needed a break, stopped paying discounts to customers who would have stayed anyway, and gave its support team time for the customers who were unhappy.

Frequently asked questions

What does an AI consultant do for an e-commerce brand?

An AI consultant finds where revenue leaks and where the team's hours go, usually in cancellations, support and catalog work, and builds agents for them inside your store and apps. Native's forward-deployed engineers do both the mapping and the build, then hand the running agents to your team.

How does AI reduce subscription churn?

By responding to each cancellation with what that customer needs: a pause, a skip, a product swap or an offer. Rules your team controls decide which one, based on the customer's history and the reason they give.

Does an AI retention flow work with Recharge or Skio?

Yes. A well-built flow acts through each subscription platform's own API, so pauses, skips, swaps and discounts happen in the system that bills the customer.

Can AI answer Shopify customer support tickets?

Yes, for order status, shipping, address changes and simple returns, which make up most tickets. Complaints, damages and refunds over policy go to a person with the order already pulled up.
