AI consulting for freight brokers, 3PLs and fleets

Native helps freight brokers, 3PLs and fleets put AI agents into carrier vetting, freight paperwork, billing and the tracking emails that fill every inbox. Agents read rate confirmations, bills of lading and proofs of delivery, check carriers against federal records, and answer status questions from the TMS. Your team keeps every decision about who hauls a load.

Where AI has an impact in logistics

Carrier vetting

Authority, insurance and safety records checked against federal data before every new carrier gets a load.

Freight document processing

Rate confirmations, bills of lading and proofs of delivery read and matched to the load, whatever the scan quality.

Billing and settlement

Customer invoices built as soon as the POD lands, and carrier invoices checked against the agreed rate.

Tracking and status emails

Where-is-my-load questions answered from the TMS and telematics within minutes.

Exception alerts

Late, at-risk and short-delivered loads flagged with the reason before the customer calls.

Accessorial claims

Detention, layover and lumper charges checked against timestamps and receipts before they are billed.

Warehouse receiving

Advance ship notices reconciled against what arrived, with discrepancies sent to the right person.

Quote requests

Spot quote emails read and priced from your rate history for a rep to send.

Why logistics runs on paperwork

A single load produces a rate confirmation, a bill of lading, a proof of delivery, a carrier invoice and a stream of emails asking where the truck is. Each document arrives as a PDF or a phone photo, and each has to be read and matched to the load before anyone gets paid. Margins in brokerage and 3PL work are thin enough that the hours spent on this decide whether a desk is profitable.

That is the work agents do well. They read the documents, match them to the load in the TMS, chase what is missing and leave the team the exceptions: a short delivery, a detention claim, a carrier that does not check out.

Carrier compliance and fraud checks

Double brokering and identity theft have made carrier vetting the riskiest step in brokerage. Fraudsters reuse a real carrier's MC number, and carriers with poor safety records re-register under a new DOT number to shed their history. A rushed check before tender is how loads disappear.

Agents run the check the same way every time: operating authority and its age, insurance on file, safety data, and contact details compared against what the carrier submitted. Native built this pattern for transportation insurance at TIE, where an agent queries the federal SAFER database mid-process to catch carriers that re-register under a new DOT number. Anything that fails goes to a person before the load is tendered.

AI in supply chain visibility

Shippers want to know where their freight is without asking, and most of the asking happens by email. Agents read each status request, pull the latest location from the TMS, the ELD or a visibility platform, and reply with the position and the updated arrival time. Loads running late get flagged before the customer notices, with the reason already found.

For 3PL warehouses the same approach covers inbound advance ship notices, receiving discrepancies and order cut-off questions, read against the WMS rather than re-keyed into it.

The systems we work with

Agents work inside the TMS, WMS and telematics systems you already run, such as McLeod, MercuryGate, Turvo, Rose Rocket, Extensiv, Samsara and Motive, and inside the shared inboxes where documents and requests arrive. Everything is built in your accounts, so the code, data and credentials stay yours.

How to measure the impact

  • Days from delivery to customer invoice
  • Minutes to vet a new carrier
  • Carriers stopped before tender for failed checks
  • Tracking emails answered without staff
  • Loads per coordinator per day

Case study · A mid-size freight brokerage

A freight brokerage vetted carriers in minutes and invoiced on the day of delivery.

Native helped a truckload brokerage put agents on carrier onboarding and freight paperwork. Every new carrier is checked the same way before tender, and customer invoices go out as soon as the proof of delivery arrives.

~3 minto vet a new carrier, down from about 30
Same dayfrom proof of delivery to invoice, down from about 3 days
6 weeksfrom kickoff to both agents in production

The challenge

Carrier checks were done by hand under time pressure, and the brokerage had been hit by a carrier using another company's MC number. Proofs of delivery arrived as phone photos in a shared inbox and waited days to be matched, which pushed back every invoice.

What we built

  • A vetting agent that reads each onboarding packet and checks authority, insurance and safety records against federal data, sending any failure to a person.
  • A document agent that reads rate confirmations, bills of lading and proofs of delivery, matches them to the load in the TMS and builds the invoice.
  • A daily list of every check and document the agents handled, with each decision on record.

The result

Suspect carriers were stopped before they touched a load, cash came in days sooner, and coordinators spent their time on the loads that were going wrong.

Frequently asked questions

What does an AI consultant do for a logistics company?

An AI consultant maps where your team spends time on documents, carrier checks and status emails, then builds agents that do that work inside your TMS and inboxes. With Native, the engineers who map the desk are the ones who build the agents and see them through go-live.

Can AI help freight brokers prevent double brokering?

AI can run every carrier check the same way, every time: authority and its age, insurance, safety records and contact details compared with federal data. It stops the rushed manual check that fraud relies on, and a person still approves each new carrier.

How is AI used in supply chain and logistics?

Mostly on the paperwork and communication that move freight: reading rate confirmations, bills of lading and proofs of delivery, answering tracking emails, flagging late loads and building invoices.

Does AI work with McLeod or MercuryGate?

Yes. Agents read and write through the TMS's own interfaces, so loads, documents and invoices stay in the system your team already uses.

Where should a 3PL or broker start with AI?

Usually document processing for billing, because days from delivery to invoice cost cash, or carrier vetting, because a single fraud loss costs more than the build.
