AI consulting for universities, education publishers and nonprofits
Native helps universities, education publishers and education nonprofits put AI agents into enrollment, student service, lead data and content discovery. At Augustine Institute, two agents turned lead data scattered across HubSpot exports, spreadsheets and PDF directories into one sales engine across three product lines. A first agent is usually in production within weeks of kickoff.

Where AI has an impact in education
Enrollment inquiries
Questions about programs, deadlines and costs answered at any hour, in the institution's own words.
Application review prep
Every file checked for missing documents, with the follow-up drafted for staff.
Transcript evaluation
Transcripts read and course equivalencies proposed for the registrar to approve.
Student service desk
Registration, billing and financial aid questions answered from policy, with hand-offs to staff.
Lead data and segmentation
Lists from many sources cleaned, deduplicated and matched to the right product or program.
Institutional outreach
Campaigns written for each segment, with high-value leads sent to a person straight away.
Content discovery
Catalogues of courses, books or video searchable by what a learner or teacher actually needs.
Advising support
Degree progress summarised before each advising meeting, so the time goes to the student.
Why education is a good fit for AI agents
Admissions, advising and student services answer the same questions thousands of times a term, usually from small teams at their busiest when applications or registration open. Publishers and education nonprofits have a different version of the same problem: large catalogues and long lists of schools, parishes or districts to reach, with little staff time to match the right offer to each one.
Agents take the repetitive part. They answer from the institution's own policies, keep records clean, and prepare the work so staff spend their time on the conversations that decide whether a student enrolls or an institution buys.
What agents do, and what stays with staff
| Work | Agent | Staff |
|---|---|---|
| Prospective student questions | Answers from the catalogue, deadlines and policies, day or night | Take the conversations that need a person |
| Application completeness | Checks each file and drafts the request for anything missing | Review and send |
| Transcript and credit evaluation | Reads transcripts and proposes course equivalencies | The registrar decides |
| Admission and aid decisions | Never decides | Decide |
| Institutional sales leads | Cleans, segments and routes them | Lead the high-value conversations |
Student data stays protected
Student records in the United States fall under FERPA, and most institutions add their own data policies on top. Agents read only what each task needs, run inside the institution's own accounts, and log every action. Nothing about a student goes to a vendor or a model provider without an agreement that covers it.
Content has its own standard. At Augustine Institute, outreach had to fit Catholic theological and pastoral norms, so the messaging rules were written down and every campaign was built to them. Any institution with a mission or a voice of its own gets the same treatment.
The systems we work with
Agents work inside the CRM, student information and learning systems you already run, such as Slate, Salesforce Education Cloud, HubSpot, Ellucian, Workday Student and Canvas. At Augustine Institute, HubSpot stayed the system of record, and the agents combined it with Excel files and PDF directories that needed OCR before anyone could use them.
The first agent usually goes live within weeks, on inquiries or lead data. Within months admissions, student services or sales work with agents every day, and your staff are trained to run and extend them.
How to measure the impact
- Time from inquiry to a useful answer, including nights and weekends
- Share of applications complete at first review
- Staff hours spent on repeated questions during peak weeks
- Lead records deduplicated, enriched and routed
- Inquiry-to-enrollment conversion by source

Frequently asked questions
How is AI used in higher education?
Mostly in the work around teaching: answering prospective student questions, checking applications, evaluating transcripts, running student service desks and keeping enrollment data clean. Academic decisions stay with faculty and staff.
Is AI in education FERPA compliant?
It can be, if it is designed that way: student data stays in the institution's own accounts, each agent sees only what its task needs, every action is logged, and any vendor that touches records is covered by an agreement.
Can AI help with student enrollment?
Yes. Agents can answer inquiries at any hour, chase missing application documents and route the most promising prospects to an admissions counsellor, which shortens the time from first contact to a complete application.
What does an AI consultant do for a university?
An AI consultant maps where admissions, student services and operations spend their time, ranks the workflows by impact and builds the agents inside the systems the university already runs. At Native the same team builds and stays until the agents run in production.
Can education publishers and nonprofits use AI for sales?
Yes. At Augustine Institute, agents unified lead data from three sources, matched each institution to the right product line and ran the outreach, while the sales team kept the high-value conversations.
